للمرة الأولى منذ نهاية الحرب الباردة، تعود خريطة العالم لتتشكل من فوق الجليد، لا من رمال الشرق الأوسط ولا من غابات أوكرانيا. جزيرة (غرينلاند)، تلك المساحة البيضاء الهادئة في أقصى شمال الأطلسي، تحولت فجأة إلى عقدة صراع كبرى، بعدما أعاد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب فتح ملف الاستحواذ عليها، مؤكداً أن الصين وروسيا تسعيان للوصول إليها، وأن واشنطن لن تسمح بذلك.
التحكم بالممرات البحرية
خريطة الأزمة تبدأ من حقيقة جغرافية باردة لكنها قاتلة في الحسابات العسكرية. غرينلاند تقع بين أمريكا الشمالية وأوراسيا، وتتحكم عملياً بالممرات البحرية الجديدة في القطب الشمالي التي يفتحها ذوبان الجليد. هذه الممرات تختصر زمن التجارة بين آسيا وأوروبا بنحو 40%، وتمنح من يسيطر عليها قدرة مراقبة بحرية وجوية غير مسبوقة.
ترمب لا يتحدث من فراغ حين يقول إن الصين وروسيا تطرقان باب غرينلاند. موسكو أعلنت منذ سنوات إستراتيجية متكاملة للقطب الشمالي، أعادت بموجبها فتح قواعد عسكرية سوفيتية قديمة ونشرت منظومات دفاع جوي متقدمة وطورت أسطول كاسحات جليد نووية لا ينافسها فيه أحد.
أما بكين، التي تصف نفسها رسمياً بأنها دولة قريبة من القطب الشمالي، فقد استثمرت مليارات الدولارات في مشاريع بنى تحتية ومناجم في غرينلاند، خصوصاً في قطاع المعادن النادرة واليورانيوم، وحاولت في أكثر من مناسبة الدخول في شراكات لتطوير مطارات وموانئ في الجزيرة قبل أن توقف الدانمارك هذه المشاريع تحت ضغط أمني أمريكي.
منصة استخباراتية وعسكرية
من هذه الزاوية، يبدو منطق ترمب مختلفاً عما يصوره خصومه؛ الرجل يرى أن ترك غرينلاند في منطقة رمادية، بلا مظلة أمنية أمريكية مباشرة، سيحولها إلى بوابة خلفية للصين وروسيا نحو خاصرة أمريكا الشمالية. قاعدة بيتوفيك الجوية، آخر وجود عسكري أمريكي دائم في الجزيرة، تشكل عنصراً حيوياً في منظومة الإنذار المبكر ضد الصواريخ البالستية العابرة للقارات القادمة من روسيا. أي توسع صيني أو روسي مدني في الظاهر قد يتحول بسرعة إلى منصة استخباراتية وعسكرية.
زلزال سياسي في أوروبا
خريطة المصالح هنا لا ترحم. غرينلاند تحتوي على احتياطيات ضخمة من العناصر الأرضية النادرة؛ وهي معادن تدخل في صناعة كل شيء، وصولاً إلى الصواريخ الفرط صوتية. الصين تسيطر اليوم على نحو 70% من هذه السوق عالمياً. دخولها بقوة إلى غرينلاند يعني خنق الصناعات الغربية في عقد واحد.
والسؤال الأخطر ليس لماذا يريد ترمب حماية غرينلاند، بل ماذا سيحصل إذا قرر تنفيذ تهديداته؟ بيان البيت الأبيض الأخير الذي لم يستبعد استخدام القوة العسكرية أحدث زلزالاً سياسياً في أوروبا. لأول مرة، يتحدث مسؤولون أوروبيون علناً عن أن أي تحرُّك عسكري أمريكي ضد جزء من مملكة الدانمارك قد يعني نهاية حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو).
لقاء البيت الأبيض وتهدئة الأزمة
وفي محاولة لاحتواء تداعيات هذا التصعيد غير المسبوق، عُقد في البيت الأبيض، الأربعاء، اجتماع على مستوى وزراء خارجية الولايات المتحدة والدانمارك وغرينلاند بحضور نائب الرئيس الأمريكي، في مسعى وُصف رسمياً بأنه يهدف إلى «تهدئة الأزمة» وإيجاد مسار دبلوماسي يلبّي مطالب واشنطن بفرض مزيد من السيطرة على غرينلاند. غير أن مجرد انعقاد الاجتماع يعكس حجم القلق داخل المعسكر الغربي من تحوّل تصريحات ترمب من مناورة سياسية إلى أزمة إستراتيجية تهدد تماسك حلف شمال الأطلسي من الداخل، خصوصاً بعد أن رافق اللقاء إعلان وزير الدفاع الدانماركي تعزيز الوجود العسكري لبلاده في غرينلاند، والتشديد على مواصلة التنسيق مع حلف «الناتو»، في رد مباشر على تهديدات أمريكية بإهمال الدفاع عن الإقليم القطبي.
وكان ترمب قد أكد تزامناً مع اجتماع البيت الأبيض، أن أمريكا تحتاج إلى غرينلاند لأسباب تتعلق بالأمن القومي، وأن (الناتو) ينبغي أن يسهم في إتاحة المجال أمام الولايات المتحدة للحصول على الجزيرة؛ ما يعكس تمسّك واشنطن برؤيتها الإستراتيجية حيال الإقليم القطبي حتى في ظل الضغوط والتحركات الدبلوماسية.
مرحلة فوضى إستراتيجية
هنا نصل إلى لحظة ما قبل الحرب الكبرى؛ ليس لأن أمريكا ستهاجم الدانمارك، فهذا سيناريو مستبعد عسكرياً وسياسياً، بل لأن مجرد طرحه يكسر المحرمات التي قام عليها النظام الغربي منذ 1945. (الناتو) ليس تحالف مصالح عابرة، بل منظومة ثقة، إذا انهارت هذه الثقة لن يبقى شيء يمنع أوروبا من البحث عن مظلة أمنية بديلة وهو ما حذر منه الكاتب في صحيفة (الفايننشال تايمز) غيديون راخمان حين تحدث عن احتمال قيام تحالف أوروبي جديد يضم بريطانيا وفرنسا وألمانيا ودولاً شمالية.
فهل نحن إذن على أبواب حرب عالمية؟
الجواب الأدق أننا نقف على حافة مرحلة فوضى إستراتيجية شاملة. ليست حرب دبابات وجيوش تزحف، بل حرب تفكك تحالفات وسباق تسلح في القطب الشمالي ومقاطعات اقتصادية، ورسوم انتقامية، وربما فرض خدمة عسكرية إلزامية في دول أوروبية لم تعرف ذلك منذ عقود.
الأزمة الأخطر بين دفتي الأطلسي
خريطة العالم التي يرسمها ترمب تقوم على فكرة واحدة بسيطة وقاسية، من يترك فراغاً جيوسياسياً سيدفع ثمنه لاحقاً ومضاعفاً. الرجل لا يريد غرينلاند لأنها ستضيف نجمة على العلم الأمريكي، بل لأنه يرى فيها خط الدفاع الأول عن أمريكا في القرن الـ21.
الصين وروسيا لا تخفيان طموحاتهما في القطب الشمالي، لكنهما تعملان بأسلوب بطيء زاحف، عبر الاستثمار والتكنولوجيا والبحث العلمي والموانئ والمطارات. ترمب بالمقابل يختصر الطريق، ويطرح الجواب بصيغته العارية: من يملك غرينلاند يملك مفاتيح القطب الشمالي.
المأزق أن هذه الصراحة الصادمة قد تكون بذاتها الشرارة التي تشعل أخطر أزمة بين ضفتي الأطلسي منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية. إذا فشل الطرفان في احتواء هذا الصدع، فلن يكون الصراع على جزيرة متجمدة، بل على شكل العالم كله في العقود القادمة!
For the first time since the end of the Cold War, the world map is being reshaped from above the ice, not from the sands of the Middle East or the forests of Ukraine. Greenland, that quiet white expanse in the far North Atlantic, has suddenly turned into a major conflict node, after U.S. President Donald Trump reopened the file on acquiring it, asserting that China and Russia are seeking to reach it, and that Washington will not allow that.
Control of Maritime Corridors
The map of the crisis begins with a cold yet deadly geographical fact in military calculations. Greenland is located between North America and Eurasia, and practically controls the new maritime corridors in the Arctic opened by melting ice. These corridors shorten trade time between Asia and Europe by about 40%, granting whoever controls them unprecedented maritime and aerial surveillance capabilities.
Trump is not speaking out of turn when he says that China and Russia are knocking on Greenland's door. Moscow announced years ago a comprehensive strategy for the Arctic, under which it reopened old Soviet military bases, deployed advanced air defense systems, and developed a fleet of nuclear icebreakers unmatched by anyone.
As for Beijing, which officially describes itself as a near-Arctic state, it has invested billions of dollars in infrastructure projects and mines in Greenland, particularly in the rare earth and uranium sectors, and has attempted on several occasions to enter into partnerships to develop airports and ports on the island before Denmark halted these projects under U.S. security pressure.
Intelligence and Military Platform
From this angle, Trump's logic appears different from how his opponents portray it; the man believes that leaving Greenland in a gray area, without direct American security umbrella, will turn it into a backdoor for China and Russia towards North America's flank. The Thule Air Base, the last permanent U.S. military presence on the island, is a vital element in the early warning system against intercontinental ballistic missiles coming from Russia. Any apparent civilian expansion by China or Russia could quickly transform into an intelligence and military platform.
Political Earthquake in Europe
The map of interests here is unforgiving. Greenland contains massive reserves of rare earth elements; these are minerals used in the production of everything, including hypersonic missiles. China currently controls about 70% of this market globally. Its strong entry into Greenland means suffocating Western industries within a decade.
The more pressing question is not why Trump wants to protect Greenland, but what will happen if he decides to carry out his threats? The recent White House statement, which did not rule out the use of military force, caused a political earthquake in Europe. For the first time, European officials are openly stating that any U.S. military action against part of the Kingdom of Denmark could mean the end of NATO.
White House Meeting and Crisis De-escalation
In an attempt to contain the repercussions of this unprecedented escalation, a meeting was held at the White House on Wednesday at the level of foreign ministers from the United States, Denmark, and Greenland, attended by the U.S. Vice President, in an effort officially described as aimed at "de-escalating the crisis" and finding a diplomatic path that meets Washington's demands for greater control over Greenland. However, the mere holding of the meeting reflects the level of concern within the Western camp about the transformation of Trump's statements from political maneuvering into a strategic crisis threatening the cohesion of NATO from within, especially after the meeting was accompanied by the announcement from the Danish Defense Minister to enhance his country's military presence in Greenland, emphasizing continued coordination with NATO in direct response to American threats to neglect the defense of the Arctic region.
Trump had confirmed, coinciding with the White House meeting, that America needs Greenland for national security reasons, and that NATO should facilitate the U.S. acquisition of the island; this reflects Washington's commitment to its strategic vision regarding the Arctic even amid diplomatic pressures and movements.
A Phase of Strategic Chaos
Here we reach a moment before a major war; not because America will attack Denmark, as this scenario is militarily and politically unlikely, but because merely proposing it breaks the taboos upon which the Western system has been built since 1945. NATO is not a transient interests alliance, but a system of trust; if this trust collapses, nothing will prevent Europe from seeking an alternative security umbrella, which is what the writer in the Financial Times, Gideon Rachman, warned about when he spoke of the possibility of a new European alliance including Britain, France, Germany, and Nordic countries.
So are we on the brink of a world war?
The more accurate answer is that we stand on the edge of a phase of comprehensive strategic chaos. It is not a war of tanks and marching armies, but a war of dismantling alliances, an arms race in the Arctic, economic boycotts, retaliatory tariffs, and perhaps the imposition of mandatory military service in European countries that have not known it for decades.
The Most Dangerous Crisis Between the Atlantic Shores
The world map that Trump is drawing is based on one simple and harsh idea: whoever leaves a geopolitical vacuum will pay the price later and multiplied. The man does not want Greenland because it will add a star to the American flag, but because he sees it as the first line of defense for America in the 21st century.
China and Russia do not hide their ambitions in the Arctic, but they are working slowly and stealthily, through investment, technology, scientific research, ports, and airports. Trump, on the other hand, shortens the path and presents the answer in its naked form: whoever owns Greenland holds the keys to the Arctic.
The dilemma is that this shocking frankness may itself be the spark that ignites the most dangerous crisis between the two sides of the Atlantic since World War II. If both sides fail to contain this rift, the conflict will not be over a frozen island, but over the shape of the entire world in the coming decades!
